We can be taught to care for each other. More positive values can be instilled, but we’re taught that being ‘competitive’ is the greatest virtue and we live in an economic myth about ‘becoming a billionaire means you helped one billion people.’

We need to relearn those simple lessons about caring for our neighbor. It’s especially tough these days when people feel their quality of life slipping. It’s hard to be generous when you’re nervous for your own future.
