My Curation Rate Tanked — How I’m Looking at the Future
The algorithm gods have spoken
I didn’t want to add to the mob of Medium critique pieces, but here I am. There have obviously been some recent changes on the platform that have affected writers and left many unsatisfied, myself included. I’ve debated giving my thoughts, and how to approach the subject.
At first, I wanted to write an angry essay bemoaning the new Buzzfeed-esque direction and draconian censorship but didn’t get around to it. Then, as always happens on the internet, I read a bunch of reactions to the negative reactions, so thought it was best if I didn’t add to the noise and simply ‘kept on keepin on.’
But my curation rate has gone from ninety-something percent to zero.
And I would like to hash out my thoughts, in part for myself, but also for the few thousand who follow and the hundred-odd emails on the list, because I think I’m going to make some adjustments moving forward.
The legendary Medium essayist Jessica Wildfire wrote a series of scathing critiques of the changes. She stirred up some sh*t, and I love how she gave a finger to the man and got thousands and thousands of claps on those pieces shredding the new management and ‘happy-go-lucky’ new direction to this blogging website.
