It's pay walled, but I totally agree with that first sentence, which is why I get frustrated and bring it up when right-wingers try and "gotcha" Jeremy Corbyn or bernie by saying their policies automatically mean death.

I'd be curious to read the article for sure and see what they've found. No question the USSR and China's transition had incalculable suffering and death.

That last sentence is spot on as well. Their trajectories are super interesting and we'll see how it plays out in the future.
