42 Million Americans Are Food Insecure
Many essential COVID-assistance lifelines are set to expire, and Washington DC will do nothing
In today’s hyper-divided atmosphere, it’s difficult to remember that both parties in the nation’s capital agree on a lot. For instance, feeding the twelve million children living in food insecurity isn’t a high priority on either side of the aisle — somebody tell those kids to hire a good lobbyist.
Both parties agree the military budget should be expanded ad infinitum, they both wish to continue making unrestricted stock trades while in office, and they believe that it’s not a big deal if they move directly into a lobbying position or board seat for firms in industries they were just tasked with ‘regulating.’
Democrats and Republicans alike serve corporate masters. As journalist Chris Hedges likes to say, “There’s no way to vote against the interests of Goldman Sachs.”
Campaign finance is the underlying issue. As long as there are unlimited and unregulated amounts of dark money funding our elections, we the people will have no say.
